RE: Locking Diesel Fuel Cap

Paul I can't help with a locking fuel cap...however it has been reported that thieves are merely drilling holes in the tanks to drain the fuel.

RE: Yellowstone

I stayed at Fishing Bridge in August. Only park CG with full hook ups. Never mind the bears...probably wont see any...just be very carefull when you encounter the buffalo. This will happen daily. Take at least one guided bus tour which is the best way to see the tourist hotspots (excuse the pun). The park is larger than can be seen if you lived there your entire life so don't make the mistake of trying to see everything.

RE: Ford 2008 F350 Dually

I have the '08 with the 6.4 and no airbags. Pulled a 32' 5'ver over 4200 miles with no chucking sensation whatsoever. This would indicate that the air bags would be of no use in his situation. Their function is merely to keep the truck level during a heavy payload situation. I had a set on a previous truck. It could be that his 5'ver is heavier and exerts greater road pressure on his truck. He can live with it or pay out a large sum to buy a hitch system that alleviates the chucking problem.

RE: 2008 F250 - MPG's - THE TRUTH

Thanks for the mpg info. I have an '08 F350 DRW 4x4. Just returned from a 4,300 mile vacation through nine states including sights such as Yellowstone, Black Hills, Bighorn Mtns. My 5th wheel weighs 9,000 lbs. I have the 4.10 rear axle. The speed on the interstates was lower than most at about 63 mph...on all other roads I drove the legal speed limit. The truck ran just great! It got 10 mpg. Also one definately does not need any exhaust brake when you have the torqshift tranny. Went down some steep grades with quick turns and kept my feet on the floorboard! Once you step down the speed a bit the tranny takes over and holds the speed. When not pulling I get 13 to 15 mpg.

RE: Fishing Bridge- Cold Nights vs. Water

Thanks for the info...we carry drinking water anyway so using the fresh water tank would be the best option. By the way does anyone have the zip code for that area or maybe the Dish Sat. directions?

Fishing Bridge- Cold Nights vs. Water

We'll be at Fishing Bridge in a week...now the temp at night is right at 32 deg. What preparations do I need to make? Is the water supply turned off at night during this season? If it is kept on, do I need heat tape?

Fishing Bridge vs. Satellite Reception

Being a Braves fan I would like to be able to view the games while at Fishing Bridge. Can I expect too much foilage for adequate reception? I record and view at night not wanting to misuse the daylight!

RE: please vote on favorite campground in townsend,tn.

Big Meadow is big rig friendly. Extremely clean, pleasant owners and staff. No pool for the kids but walking distance to tubing on the Little River which runs past the campground. The rates are very reasonable...$35 for pull thru on gravel and $45 for pull thru on concrete. They also provide storage at $40/mo and includes 10% off your stay cost.

Refrigerator on Propane Usage

We're planning a 2,000 mile trip in August and want to run the 5th wheel's refrigerator on propane while in transit. What can of propane usage can we expect on an 8 cu.ft. refrigerator? Will one 30# bottle suffice?

RE: Need RV Park in Townsend, TN

Call Big Meadow Campground in Townsend. By far the best. They do book up quickly for October. Large level lots, most are pull thru -all are full hook ups, WiFi, cable. Rate is $35 on a gravel lot, $45 on conrete pads.

Warranty Service- Time vs. Mileage?

With the cost of running a diesel nowadays the issue of not putting much mileage on my '08 F-350 raises the question. To keep my TV in warranty I normally go about 5,000 to 10,000 miles between warranty service visits to my dealer...but now it looks like I'll only have about 1,000 miles on it before the time elapses on the next "whichever comes first" part of the owner's manual. It seems crazy to ditch 15 qts. of good golden oil. Is this a hard and fast rule of the car manufacturers or up to the dealer or what?

30 to 50 Amp Upgrade

What component change is required to upgrade the 30 amp service to 50? We're talking about an '07 Jayco 5'ver. The a/c, toaster, coffee maker and hair dryer are beyond the 30 amp limit.

RE: TV Regeneration?

The only regeneration I'm familiar with has to do with cleaning out the DPF on the '08 diesels. The truck computer senses the "load" of particulate matter in the filter and tells the engine to pass diesel fuel into the exhaust to literally burn up the matter in the filter. This drastically reduces the mpg. The exhaust temp is about 2.5 times as hot during this process. This occurs only when the truck is not being driven at a high rpm for a long period of time...such as around town. Otherwise the exhaust is hot enough already to do the trick. You will notice a power loss, puff of white smoke and the mpg meter take a steep dive.

RE: Pulling a 30 ft. 5th wheel on Tennessee 411?

Your 2nd route is the better one. Off I-40 onto HWY 66, Go thru Sevierville on to Pigeon Forge. Turn right onto Hwy 321 to Townsend. The road is curvy...45 mph but very easy to drive. This way you miss Knowville which has construction on I40.

Reese Slider Conversion

I have the Reese Select FW hitch with the round tube slider base. However now that I have a long bed TV and no longer need the slider which is very heavy will the "regular" Reese base take the place of the round tube slider and match the upper part of the hitch. Not wanting to spend the money on a complete hitch.

RE: Refidgerator too cold

You might check to see if the thermostat wire (serves as a sending unit) located near the refrigerating plates in the freezer is too far from the plates. If the wire is too far from its proper position it will continually call for cooling.

RE: Campground Facilities, Great Smoky Nat'l Park

I can speak to the Cades Cove facility where you will find a nice store with the things you mentioned plus bike rentals and my favorite- soft serve ice cream. Been to the cove many times. Don't drive through it...walk it if you're able and you will see 10 times as much. Its 11 miles with a visitor center halfway(no food however). The best spent 5 hours on your visit.

Yellowstone vs Bicycles

Is Yellowstone and the Mt. Rushmore area good places for riding bikes...not trail bikes but road bikes. We'll be staying at West Yellowstone for a few days and about the same time at Custer. I don't want to carry them on my bike rake for a 4,000 mile round trip unless they will come in handy.
